The editor of The Herald newspaper, Larry Dogbey, has been jailed for seven days by an Accra High Court for contempt of court, over a publication relating to a case involving Kevin Okyere and Petraco SA. Contempt of court is when a person disobeys a court or publishes something it considers harmful to an ongoing case, and can be punished with a fine or jail.

Mr Dogbey announced his conviction himself in a Facebook post on Thursday, June 25, saying that Justice Isaac Addo delivered the judgment.

In his post, Mr Dogbey described his conviction as an attack on press freedom, saying, “Ghana deserves better. Journalism is not a crime.”
