The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has expressed concern over the conviction and sentencing of The Herald’s managing editor, Larry Dogbey, who was jailed for seven days for contempt of court over a publication relating to a legal dispute involving Kevin Okyere and Petraco SA. The Association said it would defend press freedom and protect the rights of journalists.

In a statement signed by General Secretary Dominic Hlordzi, the Association described the development as unfortunate and said it was “seeking direction from its legal team to determine the appropriate course of action.”

The Association urged all media practitioners and members of the public to remain calm and exercise restraint in discussing the matter while legal processes continue. It also expressed support for Mr Dogbey, saying it stands in firm solidarity with him during what it described as a difficult period.

The GJA reaffirmed its commitment to press freedom and protecting the rights of journalists in Ghana.
